East Sussex provides a balance of coastal living, countryside and commuter towns, which influences how rescue dogs are matched with adopters. Dogs available here may be suited to everything from active households to quieter, more settled homes. Many East Sussex rescues focus on careful assessment and home checks to ensure dogs are comfortable with their new environment. Local adoption supports long-term success for both dogs and adopters across the county.

He'd like to have a space away from visitors.Archie enjoys spending time with the other dog in the home and would enjoy sharing a home with another calm dog. Bruno, a 5 months old male Unknown available for adoption from A New Leash For Life in East Sussex

A New Leash For Life

Bruno

East Sussex
SexMale
Age5 months
BreedUnknown

Bruno is a 5 month old, sweet little guy who is doing his best to be a puppy - he arrived a nervous broken down little soul, 2 weeks later he is starting to show what a cheeky boy lies inside. He is likely to be a medium to large size when fully grown. Bruno has been vaccinated, microchipped and blood tested prior to travelling to the UK He loves food and a toys, and has found the garden a fun place to be. Toilet training is ongoing, but he does use a puppy pad at the back door if we don't get there quick enough He is happy with the harness but not so much with a lead, so slow introduction to a lead will be needed. He enjoys the company of our resident dogs and he would definitely benefit from a dog in his new home to help gis confidence. Due to his nervous nature it will take him a little while to really relax but we truly believe he will make a fantastic dog to any family Dog savvy children of 8 years plus would be best alone to Bruno still being a bit nervous. Bruno is looking for a home with a patient and understanding family that can allow Bruno some time to gain confidence and blossom. He will benefit from all the usual puppy training and ongoing socialisation. In foster in Eastbourne

Daithi, a 4 years old male Greyhound available for adoption from Lurcher SOS in East Sussex

Lurcher SOS

Daithi

East Sussex
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedGreyhound

Daithi is a gorgeous lad with a gentle heart who is ready for his second chance. Around four years old, he stands at approximately 24 inches to the shoulder and weighs 25 kg. Since being in foster, he’s been learning what it means to live in a home and is making lovely progress every single day. He’s a calm, affectionate boy indoors who thrives on routine and loves to relax on his bed or in his crate, where he sleeps happily with the door open. He settles very quickly when left for up to three hours and has great house manners. He’s clean in the house, although he still needs guidance to ask to go out, so ongoing training will be important. He doesn’t counter surf, has no guarding issues, and currently stays off the furniture. He’s recently learnt how to sit and is very keen to please.Daithi’s confidence is growing all the time. He’s now happily using the stairs indoors, his tail is wagging more, and he’s choosing to come over for cuddles. He loves time with his people and really enjoys pottering about or playing in the garden, where he’s incredibly well behaved and not barky. He has the occasional burst of zoomies, especially after dinner or at bedtime, which is very sweet to see. Toys are still a bit of a mystery to him, but treats definitely aren’t, especially licky mats and snuffle balls.Out on walks, Daithi really comes into his own. He absolutely loves the countryside and settles beautifully indoors after a good walk. He does need regular exercise to help him relax, and will need two to three good walks a day, around 90 minutes in total. He walks nicely on the lead most of the time and has excellent recall indoors and in the garden. He can still be unsure on certain surfaces and environments, such as metal stairs or some types of flooring, and can feel overwhelmed in busy or unfamiliar situations. He benefits from gentle reassurance and looks to his humans for support. A quieter rural home or peaceful town setting would suit him best.Daithi gets on well with other dogs and has grown in confidence socialising, not just with sighthounds but with calmer dogs of other breeds too. He enjoys their company and would be happy living with another relaxed, confident dog, male or female, although he could also live as an only dog with the right support. His prey drive has increased as his confidence has grown, so he’s not cat friendly, and care is needed around small dogs at first until he realises they’re dogs. He’s generally polite when meeting new people and is becoming more relaxed, often choosing to ignore visitors or occasionally asking for a gentle fuss. He can still have the odd wobble with new or less familiar people, where something unexpected can spook him and he may need space and time to settle again. With calm handling and reassurance, he recovers well. He travels well in the car, responds to his name, and is an easy, pleasant companion to have around the home.Daithi is a beautiful boy inside and out. He’s sensitive and thoughtful, with so much love to give, and he just needs patient, understanding humans and a calm environment to help him continue building confidence. With consistency, kindness, and possibly a canine friend, he’ll make a truly loyal and rewarding companion.Daithi is currently in foster in East Sussex. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate lurcher and can offer a quiet lifestyle, lovely walks, and lots of reassurance, Daithi could be the perfect addition to your family.

Elwood, a 9 years old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier available for adoption from RSPCA in East Sussex

RSPCA

Elwood

East Sussex
SexMale
Age9 years
BreedStaffordshire Bull Terrier

Elwood originally came in on the 2nd of March via another rescue. He was an unclaimed stray and was found with his brother. Unfortunately Elwood has not had much luck in finding the right home as he really struggles with kennel life and needs an owner who will work with him and have time and patience to allow him to slowly decompress and settle in a new home.Elwood is a favourite here and our volunteers love taking him for nice long walks. He is a friendly, affectionate boy who loves company and really enjoys playing fetch with a tennis ball. He would love his own garden to have zoomies in and burn off some of his energy before being taken for a nice walk. He certainly does not act his age!Elwood would like a Staffie experienced home who is willing to overlook the fact that he may not like all the other dogs and prefers human company. He could live with older children who are dog experienced.Elwood really needs to not be in kennels for too long as he finds the situation quite stressful. We are doing as much as we can for him here but it is not the same as a forever home! Are you the one willing to give him a chance at a new life?Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value", ( new Date() ).getTime() );You must have an appointment booked after applying to adopt in order to meet the animals. You are welcome to drop off donations at any time or come into our reception office with any enquiries. We are constantly striving to improve all aspects of our work.
